A digest of
Incunable Dictionaries: A Checklist and Publishing History

By David E. Vancil

(Containing Corrections and Additional Entries. Items with ** are filed in the wrong date sequence.)

Each entry in the 1994 published compilation contains the short title under which it has been entered, sources for the entry, and notes. The notes can be about content or of a bibliographic nature. These are unavailable in this online digest edition, although place of publication, publisher name, and date have been provided when the data have been available. Contact the compiler with corrections and additions to the online listing and with inquiries about where to acquire the printed 1994 printed version. In addition to the browser-dependent e-mail link, you may use the provided form.

List Arranged by Main Entry

Main entry was established by OCLC, ARLN records, or printed bibliographic sources. Sources consulted on an ongoing basis will be listed in this guide and history shortly. Meanwhile, a listing of compiler name forms searched in various sources is available in an authority file listing.

Arrangement of the personal names in the list below is letter-by-letter and based on the established name. However, in the 1994 published book, the main entries are not all arranged strictly alphabetically but sometimes extrapolated to the next significant word. This sequence has been maintained in the online version.

Previously unnumbered entries found in the appendix have been numbered. Newly discovered entries appearing anywhere in this online listing have been placed in the correct date location under the number of the preceding entry followed by alphabetical letters, e.g., 958a, 958b, etc., indicating the addition of an entry, or a record not found in the 1994 printed work. There are few such entries at this time.
