When to Cite

When is it necessary to cite?

Failure to cite a source is a serious academic offense for which you could be expelled. It is sometimes difficult to determine when a citation is necessary, but be sure to cite the following:

• facts, statistics, or any other information that is not "common knowledge";
• direct quotes from (verbal or written) sources;
• summaries of sources; and
• paraphrases of sources.
