Online legal resources still use the standard citation format developed for the printed volumes. Most of our legal materials are now available via Westlaw, but some are also available in print. This guide lists the most heavily used materials but is not meant to be comprehensive.
 

The Legal Research guide comprises the most complete information, and includes information  also available in separate handouts for Legal Abbreviations, Citating/Shepardizing, and Tracing Legislation. The Tracing Legislation is the most complete handout on locating  U.S. and Indiana legislative information. You may also find the Criminology and Sports Law guides helpful.

Westlaw Campus database: This database, and the Academic Universe/Legal Research link, are your primary access point for all online legal research. Westlaw provides online access to all case Reporters [courts in all 50 states, D.C., and the federal courts since 1654]; laws from all 50 states and federal statutes published in the US Code Annotated, and other legal resources. Access to secondary sources includes American Jurisprudence 2d, a comprehensive encyclopedia of state and federal law; American Law Reports, articles that summarize and analyze court decisions on a particular legal issue; hundreds of journals and law reviews from leading law schools. Westlaw Campus' Keysearch is a topic guide, like Yahoo.

A separate resource, Westlaw Keycite, should be accessed if you need to cite or shepardize a case. Access it from the Databases/Alphabetical listing [available on campus only].
