The indexes and abstracts you use will depend on your particular research topic. The list below gives you an idea of the wide variety of access possible. There may be indexes not on this list that you will need. Consult with a reference librarian.

Communication & Mass Media Complete CMMC incorporates CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association) and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Penn State) along with numerous other journals to create a comprehensive research and reference resource in the communication and mass media fields. CMMC offers cover-to-cover ("core") indexing and abstracts for over 300 journals, and selected ("priority") coverage of over 100 more, for a combined coverage of over 400 titles. The database averages 2,300 new records per week and includes approximately 15,250 new cited references per week. It also contains unique implicit citations that refer you to actual representations of a book, a work of art, a music score, or anything else. Access to Resources Other than ISU Libraries:

Use the links under Internet Resources to Other Libraries to access library catalogs around the world.

ISU Interlibrary Loan: Use Electronic Interlibrary Loan  to place requests for books, journal articles and other library materials not available locally. Average turnaround time is 7-10 working days, so plan accordingly. Some limits to the number of requests per person per week do apply. For more information, inquire in the Interlibrary Loan office (1st floor, open 8-4:30, Monday - Friday). When notified, pick up materials at the Check-out Desk. Some of our databases (if you access a database from the Alphabetical listing and it is an Ebscohost database), have links to full-text and links to an online interlibrary loan form.

FirstSearch (OCLC) and Ingenta: Both of these Internet-based electronic databases let you search for journal articles from a large selection of journals. FirstSearch (which also searches library catalogs for books, etc.) allows you to email your interlibrary loan request directly to the ISU Interlibrary Loan Office. Ingenta allows you to search but you must print/email record screens and then use the Library’s forms. Separate handouts are available.
