POSITION SUMMARY:
12-month tenure track position. Manages circulation, reserves, billing, stacks, and interlibrary loan services. Coordinates, communicates, and serves as primary source of information to patrons and staff regarding circulation policies and procedures. Collaborates with other library units concerning circulation and interlibrary loan services. Serves as contact for the continued integration and implementation of circulation and interlibrary loan into the library automated system. Serves as contact with the university for integration of the circulation department into the Banner Financial System. Progresses successfully along the tenure and promotion track and participates fully as a member of the library faculty.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to and is evaluated by the Dean of the Library
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervises up to 12 full-time support staff members and about 20 student assistants.
MINIMAL ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
· ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree.
· Ability to make decisions independently and function effectively in a busy environment.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Interpersonal skills that allow for active and effective interaction with peers and a diverse population of library users.
· Ability to participate fully as a tenure-track library faculty member, including service to library, university, and community; professional development; and a strong service commitment.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
· Academic library experience, preferably in circulation services.
· Second master’s degree.
· Knowledge of copyright issues and electronic resources.
· 3 years of academic library supervisory experience
· Experience with library automated systems and PC applications
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as librarian for five units within the circulation department: circulation, reserve, stack maintenance, billing, and interlibrary loan.
2. Oversee the daily operation of the circulation department.
3. Direct the selection, training, evaluation, and deployment of support staff members in all circulation operations.
4. Coordinate, communicate, and serve as the primary source of information to patrons and staff regarding policies and procedures in the circulation department.
5. Resolve service problems with users at all levels and mediate patron grievances.
6. Develop annual objectives for the circulation department.
7. Collaborate with other library departments.
8. Study trends and developments in circulation, interlibrary loan/document delivery, and copyright and implement changes to improve services to patrons and staff productivity.
9. Participate in grant-writing and seeking outside funding sources for the library
10. Serve on library and campus committees.
11. Participate in professional organizations, research, writing, and other scholarly activities as required by the tenure process at ISU.
12. Develop and participate in community engagement activities hosted by the library.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
